Discover Alaska by the historic Alaska Railroad

An honest, open and friendly hospitality, born of Alaska’s frontier spirit, lives on at the Alaska Railroad. The Alaska Railroad is one of Alaska’s most popular attractions, and is arguably the best way for you to see the real Alaska. Riding the Alaskan rails is an experience that’s impossible to duplicate. Glaciers, mountains, and wildlife fill the ever-changing panorama of your window, making for an easy and luxurious way to experience the unfolding scenery.

The main route taken by a majority of visitors is the Denali Star Train. It is the Alaska Railroad’s flagship route, connecting Anchorage and Fairbanks with stops in Wasilla, Talkeetna and Denali National Park. You will be astounded by the sparkling salmon streams and stands of birch and spruce that come into view, while carpets of fireweed add dramatic purple to the landscape. This route reveals dramatic changes in the landscape as the train journeys toward the rugged peaks of the Alaska Range.

There are other exciting routes available for your Alaskan adventure. They include the Coastal Classic Train, with service from Anchorage to Girdwood and Seward. This train winds through beautiful Alaska wilderness on the southern portion of the Railbelt, offering amazing views of mountains, glaciers and the Place River Valley. Or you might enjoy the Glacier Discovery Train, with service connecting Anchorage to Girdwood, PortageWhittier, Spencer Glacier and Grandview.

How about a chance to ride one of America's last flag stop trains? The Hurricane Turn Train has delivered Alaska locals to their remote cabins and hidden fishing spots since 1923. On this wilderness run between Talkeetna and the dramatic Hurricane Gulch, get off the train anywhere along the 55-mile stretch. When you are ready to return to civilization, you can stop the train on its return with the wave of a flag. Or stay on for the entire route for a one-of-a-kind day trip.
