Fairbanks Activities

Fairbanks is teeming with fascinating history and offers an array of exciting touring options to experience the frontier pride and culture. Board a motor coach for a guided Historic Fairbanks City Tour or learn about the Fairbanks Gold Rush history with a tour of Gold Dredge No. 8, and try your hand at gold panning. You get to keep any gold you find!

Experience a popular ride on an authentic sternwheeler riverboat to discover how Fairbanks developed through Native culture, soar on a bush plane or mush through snow with a traditional dog sledding tour.
Climb aboard a comfortable van or motorcoach to drive north on the Dalton Highway. Cross the mighty Yukon River, the Arctic Circle, and the Brooks Range to explore arctic tundra on the coastal plain en route to the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean. Watch for caribou, musk ox, migratory birds, and waterfowl.

Renting a car in Fairbanks is helpful because attractions are far flung. You can walk around the downtown area, but a car increases your tour and activity options. Drive the Chena Hot Springs road for views of the Tanana River Valley and to access a number of hiking trails. Visit some of the numerous museums around town, or fly to Barrow or another Native village and witness the remote lifestyle first-hand. Visit Fairbanks starting in mid-August to watch for the phenomenal display of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
