Check in to your hotel, and then take a self-guided tour of downtown Anchorage. "Downtown" is the northwest corner of Anchorage with high-rise hotels, souvenir shops, restaurants, and the log cabin Visitor Information Center where you can pick up a map for your walking tour. On weekends, the Anchorage Saturday Market is a good choice for shopping, entertainment, and food.
The city also has an extensive trail system. The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail begins west of 2nd Avenue and winds along Cook Inlet. Alternatively, you might visit the Anchorage Museum or enjoy some shopping at the 5th Avenue Mall.

This morning, board Alaska Railroad's Denali Star train, and enjoy a scenic ride over glacial rivers and through birch and spruce forests of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Travel through Talkeetna, once a "bush" mining town and now a staging area for Denali climbers.
Continue north toward the Alaska Range, keeping an eye out for southern views of Mt. McKinley as well as bears, moose, foxes, wolves, and other Alaska wildlife. At Broad Pass, 2,363 feet above sea level, you'll be at the highest point on the railroad and have expansive views of alpine tundra. In the fall, caribou migrate through this area.
Arrive at the Denali Park entrance at about 4:00 p.m., and transfer to Denali Cabins (included), a unique property nestled in the boreal forest south of the park entrance. Denali Cabins has 46 cozy cedar cabins with private baths, televisions, telephones, and all the charm of an authentic Alaskan cabin.
Explore the area's optional day tours and activities, and relax in the outdoor hot tub before retiring to your private cabin.
Overnight at Denali Cabins.
After enjoying breakfast at the Prey Bar and Eatery (optional), board the bus for the Denali Backcountry Adventure, the most-extensive day trip into Denali National Park. Arrive at our exclusive Denali Backcountry Lodge in time for a hearty buffet lunch, and enjoy an afternoon activity, perhaps gold panning or a nature walk. Board the bus for the return journey and a second chance to view the magnificent scenery and spot bears, caribou, foxes, wolves, owls, and more. The weather, wildlife, and changing light assure it's never the same trip twice.
After enjoying breakfast at the Preay Bar and Eatery (optional), take advantage of free time to explore the area with optional activities such as a jet boat safari, rafting tour, or flightseeing tour.
